We see the confluence or joining together of the two streams or rivers of “Family Mess” that joined together in negatively impacting Jacob.  We saw where Jacob, “The Young and the Restless,” received the iniquity or consequences of the sin and the “Family Mess” of both sides of his family.  Not only do we see the two streams of “Family Mess’ join together into a mighty river of “Family Mess,” but we see the “Roots” of Jacob’s “Family Mess.”

bullet

His grandfather, Abraham, was a passive man, who had trouble trusting God.

bullet

His father, Isaac, was a passive man, who had trouble trusting God.

bullet

And Jacob was a passive man, who had trouble trusting God.

bullet

His great-grandfather, Terah, was an idol worshipper.

I suspected that he was and gave you my evidence in earlier messages, but in searching the Word of God, the Bible clearly states that Terah was an idol worshipper.  The Bible says in

Joshua 24:2, “And Joshua said to all the people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “From ancient times your fathers lived beyond the River, namely, Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, and they served other gods.”  This Scripture also confirms my other speculations.

bullet

Abraham was a worshipper of idols, but he was delivered by the grace of God.

bullet

Jacob’s grandfather on his mother’s side, Nahor, was an idol worshipper. This Nahor is not to be confused with Abraham’s grandfather, who was also named Nahor.

bullet

Rebekah was also probably an idol worshipper.  Her grandfather, father, and brother were all idol worshippers.

bullet

Jacob’s wives, Laban’s daughters, Rachel and Leah, worshipped idol gods. Later idol worship manifested itself as a stronghold in Jacob’s household.

bullet

Jacob’s mother, Rebekah, and her brother, Laban, were both tricksters, which leads us to believe that their father Nahor was also, in some way, a trickster.

bullet

Jacob’s wife, Rachel, Laban’s daughter was also a trickster who coveted and stole her father’s household gods.

bullet

Consequently, Jacob was a trickster from his birth.

We need to become aware of the mighty river of “Family Mess” that is converging in us from the two streams of both sides of our families. We all need to take a deep look at our roots to see what we are inheriting...

Regardless of the “Family Mess” in our families, because we have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we are the church, the body of Jesus Christ, the Bride of the Heavenly Bridegroom, the family of God, the sons of God, who are in Christ Jesus.  And we also have a powerful Scripture that affirms this truth.
