Before God can use us, sometimes He has to separate us unto Himself, that He may prepare us for His service.  Yet, many times we try to take family members with us, family members that God has asked us to separate from.   Some family members represent a link to our codependent, dysfunctional, idolatrous family systems, along with home of origin issues.  So, often, God has to separate us from certain family members, before He can use us.  As Abraham journeyed toward the Promised Land, Abraham’s herdsmen and Lot’s herdsmen began quarreling.  “Family Mess!”  As the world turns, family mess happens!  Abraham and Lot were both rich.  They both had a great deal of livestock, and the land could not support both herds.

So, Abraham proposes a solution...!

Now, after God had separated Lot from Abraham, God begins to speak to Abraham.  God reveals to Abraham the land that He was promising to Him.  He told Abraham to look northward, southward, eastward, and westward.  He said...

God used “Family Mess” to separate Lot from Abraham, and caused Him to go in the direction that He wanted.  And as painful, frustrating, and devastating as “Family Mess” can be, God often uses “Family Mess” to separate us from dysfunctional relatives and cause us to go in the direction He wants us to go!
