  Sermon Outlines

So, the Lord stood in His place, while the two men went towards Sodom.  Now Abraham, understanding what was taking place, approached the Lord and began to plead and bargain for the lives of the people of Sodom, and consequently, Lot and his family.

There is a tremendous pattern and lesson here.  Even though God had separated Lot from Abraham and God had a tremendous destiny for Abraham, Abraham was still rightly concerned about Lot.  He could not demonstrate that concern by disobeying God and living with Lot, but He could demonstrate that concern by pleading and interceding for Lot, i.e. by praying for Lot.

How to Serve Separated Family Members...

Grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, aunts, uncles, etc., keep on praying for your relatives, until God delivers them from Sodom.  (All right, what is the focus of Abraham’s prayer?)

Abraham begins to play on God’s justice.  Our God is holy God, and as such He is righteous and just.

bullet

Righteousness is demonstrated in God’s love for the Law.

bullet

Justice is demonstrated in God’s exacting the penalty for sinning or breaking the Law.

“Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked...?”

God is saying to us, “I want bless you and give you a destiny, but you will have to leave the comfort, association, and trust in your favorite relatives, and you will have to leave behind your worldly associations and possessions.”

Even though God may have separated us from some of our relatives for a greater purpose, and our fellowship with them is almost non-existent, we should not forget about them.  We should intercede for them through strong, persistent prayer.  We should plead and bargain for their lives.  Perhaps God will deliver our relatives, because of us!  This is how we are to serve separated family members!
