We come now to an important experience in the life of Isaac, the biological son of Abraham and heir that God had promised to Abraham and Sarah.  It came about that there was famine in the land, so in order to survive the famine Isaac went to the Philistine city of Gerar, where Abimelech, the king of the Philistines lived.  While Isaac was at Gerar, God appeared to Isaac, gave him some instructions, and extended the promise of his father, Abraham, to him.  God told him not to go down to Egypt, but to sojourn in the land of the Philistines and He would do four things for him...

I will be with you.

I will bless you.

I will give all of these lands to you and your descendants.

I will establish the oath I swore to your father Abraham.

Then God shared with Isaac the reason why His promises were still good and being extended to him:  God said...

The truth that we need to apply is this:  “Because of the sin of Adam, we not only receive the punishment and the consequences of the sin of our father and our forefathers all the way back to Adam, but we receive the unique sin nature of our parents and their family lines...”
