  Sermon Outlines

God has a purpose in wrestling with us.  He wants to bring us to the dawning of a new day, but He can only do that by bringing us to the end of ourselves!!!  Sometimes He puts us in a submission hold and he is not asking us to say, “Uncle,” but “Jesus!”  But we struggle for a blessing; we struggle to hold on to ourselves!  We must learn to give in and say, “Jesus!  You are the Lord and Master of my life.”

“In countless scenarios, each one of us will stay the way we are until something forces us to change,  perhaps a crisis, God, or both.  We won’t make the hard choices until we have to.” In Jacob’s case, it was both.  God often uses the crises of “Family Mess” to change us and call us to a higher walk.

God wrestled with Jacob until the socket of his thigh was dislocated. “When Jacob wrestled against God’s divine dealing with him, ‘God touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint as He wrestled with him.’  The sentence of death had to be written on the flesh”
